Take a Look at the Different Styles for a Log Shed

A log shed is a great idea, as it can go very well with a log home. They can also work well with homes made of other materials. In fact, this can be an amazing way to show off the beauty of your yard. No one likes to live in a home that is cluttered so give yourself the room you need.

When it comes to finding a log shed, you will be happy to learn that there are quite a few different styles. You may have a preference of one over the other so it is good to know what your options are before you commit to one of them.

The D style appears to be square in shape. However, it is referred to as the D style due to the way in which the logs are flat on three sides. Since the logs are all the same size, the are very easy to put into place. You can also find milled log sheds that have a rounded shape to them. These logs don’t have any tapering on the ends of them.

You may want a round look to your log shed as that is quite common. The ends of all of the logs have been tapered. This type of shed can be more difficult to put together on your own though so keep that in mind.

You may be saying that a log shed definitely sounds great, but what about the expense involved with it? You will be very happy to find there is a way to cut the costs down. It doesn’t involve going with a cheap quality one that won’t last very long. It also doesn’t involve cutting down the size.

Instead, it involves investing a shed kit. This offers you want you need to put the log shed into place anywhere that you would like to. If you can follow simple instructions and use some common household tools then you will have no problem at all getting this accomplished. The end result will be just as nice as if you had a log shed delivered to your home completed intact.

Learn from the Best: Build an Acclaimed Mackie Log House This big book gives you 48 log-house plans, with photographs, elevations and building tips. When combined with the basic text of B. Allan Mackie's Building with Logs, this book is the next step for the serious log-home builder -- the complete map for getting the job underway. Designs range from a 432 square-foot guesthouse through a 1,140 square-foot cabin (that began as a ski lodge and eventually became Mackie's home) to a 3,300 square-foot masterpiece that contains a sauna and swimming pool. Somewhere in this wealth of log-house plans is the perfect home and cottage for all who love logs buildings and are planning one for themselves. B. Allan Mackie continues to teach, design, and build. His schools have trained thousands of good crafts people; some of whom formed building companies internationally, with the result that the worldwide standard for excellence in log building is now a Mackie log house.

Description

Now completely revised and updated, B. Allan This classic is still considered the best book ever written on making a full sized log home. This enlarged eighth edition, revised in 1997, is filled with numerous major construction improvements, and clearly shows the novice and experienced log builder how to select logs, plan both the site and financing, and then build a handsome log structure from the foundation to the ridge cap. The concept of modern log building was born 25 years ago with the first edition of Building with Logs. All who loved log homes could, for the first time, learn how to build one. With over 100,000 copies sold, this book inspired thousands of owner-built homes. Building with Logs covers: financing, the site, planning a good home, acquisition of logs, how to fall a tree and trim it, storage of logs, safety, foundations and basements, first logs and floor joists, hewing and the broad axe, cutting a round notch, sealing between the logs, setting allowance, gable ends, electrical wiring, finishing touches and much more. The author has continued to teach, design and build. His schools have trained thousands of good craftsmen, some of whom formed companies to build internationally, with the result that the world-wide standard for excellence in log building is now a "Mackie" log house.

Description

Barns, sheds, garages, and storage buildings all age as houses do. And, like houses, they will eventually need renovation to save them from disrepair and to restore them to their former glory. And they can even be converted into spaces that are once again useful to their owners, including a storage area, a studio, or a home office. Readers will learn to save money, history, and architecture simply by renovating and restoring rather than by replacing their old outbuildings. From the foundation up, from the walls in, and from the roof down, craftsman Nick Engler, author of dozens of books and hundreds of magazine articles on woodworking, construction, and home how-to, takes readers through the process of renovating existing outbuildings. Engler gives seasoned advice on how to square and strengthen the structure, repair or replace the roofing and siding, enlarge and modify the building, install new doors and windows, and add electricity and plumbing. He also includes practical information on how to evaluate an old structure in light of current building codes and how to then preserve the original charm of any outbuilding while making it usable again.
