Log Cabins Are Easy and Fun to Build Yourself

Creating and building personalized log cabins has never been easier or more popular! What could be better than the warm, cosy atmosphere a log cabin offers? Being in one strips away the modern contraptions of the day allowing you to relax in the essence of simpler times.

Long ago, owners would build their own, exceedingly small log cabins due to the laborious nature of erecting one; today, however, the industry – being more automated than in years past – has move toward bigger, more spacious log cabin homes, some even being what one might call "glamorous," in other words, more than just your garden variety, functional cabin you might stay in on summer weekends, or utilize for a week long vacation. While you can certainly opt for a more traditional, simple log cabin, you also have the option of building one to your specifications – one that may even be suitable for living in all year long.

Wood is generally not a terrific insulating material, but, mysteriously, log cabins do tend to be extremely energy efficient, regardless of the fact that why that is true is still quite a mystery. The smaller the cabin and the fewer windows you install, the more warmth your cabin will retain. So it's not recommended that you go all out and install lots of windows and build an extravagant home; keep it simple and your log cabin will be ultra energy efficient – after all, cosiness is what having your own cabin is all about!

The easiest – and probably best – way to build your log cabin home is to purchase one in the form of a kit. This will allow you to keep your costs down and will help you build the most energy efficient variety.

Long ago log cabin homes were, of course, built in areas of wilderness – mountains, prairies, and the like. More recently, cabins became available to use on weekend retreats or when individuals went on holiday. The cabins of today, though, are often built for individuals and families to live in year round.

If you are interested in building your own log cabin, whether to use as your primary residence or vacation home, you should be sure you spend an adequate amount of time looking at how much value a company can provide for the least amount of money. You'll be glad you did!

Eloquent in their simplicity and architectural strength, log cabins have long been associated with traditional American virtues of self-reliance, independence, and ingenuity. Excerpt: Whisky Creek Cabin - The Whisky Creek Cabin was built in about 1880 by an unknown miner. The original structure was very basic, consisting of four walls, a dirt floor, and wooden shake roof. A flume ditch was constructed near the cabin around 1890 to provide water for hydraulic mining on Whisky Creek. The flume begins about one half mile up the stream from the cabin and ends at the gully behind the tool shed. In 1905, the flume was extended to a point about 50 feet above Whisky Creek bar. This flume ditch also provided drinking water for the cabin. The first recorded mining claim on Whisky Creek was filed by P.H Rushmore in 1917. Rushmore sold his claim to Cy Whiteneck a year later. Whiteneck lived at Whisky Creek for the next 30 years. During that time, he improved the original cabin by laying a wooden floor and adding a second room. He also constructed several work sheds near the cabin. Over the years, Whiteneck used hydraulic mining methods to extract gold from the creek, but never got rich. In 1948, Whiteneck sold his claim to L. M. Nichols and his wife. In 1957, Nichols hired Lou Martin to be the propertys caretaker. Martin continued to mine Whisky C...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=22071052
