Plan your holiday Glacier National Park in the St. Mary Lodge

If your vacation plans call for visiting one of the largest national parks in the world you will need a place to sleep. If your idea of a hotel room is a box 10 x 10 with cheap carpet on the floor and a bed caught in the middle of the room, prepare to be impressed. With 122 places to lay your head at night, spread across seven different facilities, there is room type and price to all taste and budget.

What the owners like to call to present the facilities, I think of as suburbs. And like the neighborhoods around the world, each center has its own charm and unique style. From rustic rooms that bring back the days of the old frontier of Montana, to exclusive and luxurious, it's all there in the hostel Santa Maria & Resort.

A saw Mary San Lodge & Resort "Barrio" is right for you

Pinnacle Las Casas draw its name from the fact that they are on top of a hill overlooking the main house.

West Lodge

A great choice for couples, this building one floor has 24 rooms. Choose between a king and a queen size or twin beds. All rooms were recently updated and have TV, air conditioning, Desk and chair, granite countertops, and the traditional furniture of the lodge is known.

The Lodge

For a rustic experience without sacrificing quality, East Lodge, a one-story building with 10 lodge-style rooms, is a great option. Choose between one or two queen beds. All rooms include air conditioning and a desk and chair. TVs are not available in the East Lodge.

Glacier Cabins

Looking to get up close and personal with Glacier National Park? The cabins of the glacier is the closest you can get without sleeping on the floor inside the park. But surprising that proximity does not mean you will be isolated. The Glacier Cabins are immediately adjacent to the Lodge dining and shopping.

A great choice for vacationing families and small groups of peers travel, each room has a kitchen table and four chairs, microwave, mini fridge, sink and toilet. There is a sleeping area in the master bedroom and a separate bedroom can be closed if desired.

Sun deck

Now if you really want an experience that takes you "away from it all" check out the Sun booth located on the east side of the Lodge, guests many say it offers the most spectacular views found anywhere in Santa Maria Lodge & Resort.

This cabin separate two-story has a cozy loft bedroom and a full kitchen and a large deck that is perfect for whiling away the summer nights are cool.

Tipis

If you are looking for a unique lodging experience, it is hard to beat the tipis. These 700 square foot rooms with 27 ft. ceilings include a bathhouse with jacuzzi, cedar wood floors, a special "Cloud Nine" bed, a sofa bed for family or friends, flat screen TV, fireplace and a table with chairs.

Guest House

The preferred option for many families and small groups of fellow travelers, the guest house is equipped with two bedrooms, a sofa bed, living room, kitchenette, TV satellite and air-conditioning.

Main Lodge

The main building has 22 rooms spread between the first floor below the lobby main and upstairs hall. All rooms include one or two beds, a desk, table and chair. You can enjoy all the main lobby, recently renovated with a seating area of the group, presenting traditional Montana decoration, art high level of interest, and a fireplace area that is perfect for sharing with old friends and to the new meeting.

Now you see why I said "there is no room type and price to suit every taste and budget" when your holiday plans include a trip to Glacier National Park and the Santa Maria Lodge & Resort!

• Rich, warm, relaxed, natural—Adirondack camps, Western lodges, much more • Glowing photos of dozens of unique rustic homes from across North America • Spotlights craftspeople and creative forces in construction and décor • Great idea book for anyone looking to design or decorate a primary or second home Used to be that "rustic" meant a dusty, dumpy cabin in the woods. No more! Rustic Revisited reveals today's rustic—contemporary design that celebrates the honesty of all-natural, local materials such as wood, twig, stone, and bark. Rustic structures often have the same finish on the exterior and the interior—for example, rough-hewn timber on both the outside and inside. The homes in Rustic Revisitedembrace the hand-crafted philosophy of rustic and show how to take that philosophy to new heights in a variety of styles, from the Adirondack camp to the Western lodge to the classic log cabin. Thirty unique homes, most planned by architects or interior designers, are showcased here, each lavishly photographed to allow readers exclusive access to interiors, exteriors, and noteworthy details in unusual rustic houses from New York to California, from Montana to Ontario, from North Carolina to Minnesota. These homes cover the full spectrum of rustic—renovations and new construction, traditional and cutting edge. A bonus chapter on decoration spotlights the craftspeople who are the creative forces of the movement.

Description

Featuring images of tented and tree-house camps to thatched bungalows and luxurious lodges, this interior design guide evokes the essence of African style. Colour photography celebrates the unique architectural and decor style, providing inspiration for the home decorator.

In our culture, the word safari--which means journey in Swahili--conjures exotic images: romantic treks across desert plains rife with wild animals, journeys through dense jungles and down winding rivers, and the stylish indulgence popularized by early explorers like Captain William Cornwallis and depicted in movies like Out of Africa. Nowadays, Africa still attracts adventurous travelers who want to experience wilderness in the style of these early explorers. Lucky for them, many camps and lodges perpetuate these traditions, adopting the decorative style and offering many creature comforts to provide at once a romanticized way of "roughing it" and an experience of great luxury. In Simply Safari, Swaziland-based wildlife photographers Daryl and Sharna Balfour illustrate a broad spectrum of architectural and decorative styles--from the more traditional to the most modern, and from the original tented safari style to motifs more reminiscent of a luxury hotel in the wild. The authors take readers on a photographic tour of 26 lodges in seven southern African states, including Botswana, Mozambique, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, illustrating the dynamic combination of primitive architecture and the high decorative style of European explorers. They depict romanticized versions of safari life ranging from a tree-house camp in Zambia, high on the banks of the Zambezi River, to the air-conditioned luxury of South Africa's Shamwari Lodge. Botswana's Abu Camp on the Okavango Delta offers lavishly furnished tents with polished teak floors, a custom-made mahogany sleigh bed, and solid brass and copper bathtubs imported from Italy. Sossusvlei, Ongava, and Skeleton Coast safari camps in Namibia avoid competing with the stunning setting by relying on the simplicity of raw materials and natural textures. Combinations of vibrant earth tones and natural materials such as canvas, wood, stone, and thatch blend effortlessly to delight the eye without detracting from the views beyond. Sumptuous photographs and inspiring text will entice those who want to transform their homes--whether city apartments or rambling country spreads--into exotic retreats that call to mind these breathtaking African locales. A handy source list is included to make it easy for readers to find many of the home furnishings pictured. Contact information for the featured lodges is included for those inspired to experience safari life firsthand. --Robin Donovan
