Easter sales jumped up and down
A store sales tripled, while others stumbled
By Julie L. Jones
04 2008
Easter sales were all over the place at 17 specialty stores across the country, TDmonthly Magazine learned, with five stores reporting an increase or numbers in line with last year, and suffering of others in the infamous recession, still winter weather and vacant towns due to Spring Break.
A tough start for Spring
"We had an unpleasant choice of time and there is a recession going on here, but the housing market has been a little higher. I've noticed a kind of slowdown in discretionary purchase, "David Friedlander, owner of the store to the old Children in Louisville Metro, Kentucky, told TDmonthly, noting that sales fell after the first week of January.
George Emerson, owner of The Walrus and Carpenter Toys Middletown Rhode Island, was disappointed to see that your store sales had fallen by 30 percent compared with Easter 2007. Lamenting the state of the economy and high taxes, an unnamed retailer in Florida also fell by 30 percent.
In the toy factory in Jacksonville, Florida, "was slow enough that [the owner] returns to his home early Saturday the employees, "said Kenneth TDmonthly Fund Manager.
But for others, the picture is more enjoyable.
Early but not forgotton
Perhaps the most successful of all was one of 400 children-safe "Bunny Hop" involving Green Frog Toys and seven other children's stores in Portland, Ore. 's Pearl District - specializing in everything from cakes to children's clothing. Children went from shop to shop, enjoy the activities and receipt of stamps on a card that qualifies them for a gift certificate drawing, once it became the last of the locations marked on maps.
So busy printing and distribution of prizes during the event on Saturday, the shop owner and his staff Patricia Fiedler was more than pleased to realize later that Green Frog "sales had tripled compared with last year" - an event that cost just $ 36.
"If people come together, can be much more successful," Fiedler told TDmonthly, adding they plan to release a similar event for the Day Earth on 22 April.
Toys Cape Cod in Mashpee, Massachusetts, encouraged repeat customers by hosting the Easter Bunny this weekend before the holidays, then post pictures on the wall for children to enable them to take back home, said manager Linda Peterson.
David Ekwall, owner of The Toy Wood in Wethersfield, Connecticut, he saw a 5 - to 10 percent increase in sales, and Sandy Friedman, owner of Accipiter in Raleigh, North Carolina, also estimated a gain of 10 percent.
"People are tired of the bad economy," he told TDmonthly. "Easter was kind of an opportunity to people to relax a bit and have some fun stuff ... without breaking the bank. "
Connie Hoeft, owner of RC toys in Kearney, Nebraska, records a similar 8-10 percent increase in sales due in part to active by sending an email to customers and reminds them of the party.
WHAT WE SELL
Hoeft changed the traditional Easter basket recommend playing cards - including sixteen games of the Alps, which sold out quickly and has been reordered. The Thumball of bright colors for the answers in the movement and modeling dough Play Clay Factory also sold well, told TDmonthly.
The Products Marshmallow Fun Company - especially the bow and Malva - were the best sellers in the toy store in town in New Hartford, New York, as Owner Jane Willis.
Ganz Webkinz games and, "of course", sold more easily than comets from the spring was not fully in place, said Diane Gervais, director and buyer of Middletown, Connecticut 's Toy and Hobby Amato.
Although not a traditional toy store, Abracadabra, New York took the costumes that represent 40 percent of the store, the rental of 15 pet rabbit costumes, co-owner Robert Pinzon told TDmonthly.

![]() How to Build and Furnish a Log Cabin: The easy, natural way using only hand tools and the woods around you List Price: Sale Price: $11.53 You save: $5.42 (32%) Eligible for free shipping!Availability: Usually ships in 24 hours See Reviews For This Product DescriptionThe only step-by-step guide to building log cabins and log furniture—Pioneer style There are other manuals on building cabins, but W. Ben Hunt's is the only one to show you how to build and furnish an authentic pioneer cabin-the easy, natural way, using only hand tools and the woods around you. Our ancestors used logs and hand tools to build durable, dry, windproof, and protective dwellings; and they fashioned chairs, tables, branches, and bushes. In this day of power saws, lumberyards, and high prices, it's good to know that you can build in the same way. How to Build a Log Cabin Part One provides complete directions for building cabins of three sizes: one-room, one-room and lean-to, and three-room. Just follow the clear instructions on every step of construction from choosing the site, clearing the tract, and building the foundation to installing fixtures, heating, and lighting. How to Furnish a Log Cabin If you're not ready to build an entire cabin, you can try your hand at some of the small furnishings such as lamps, fences, and candlesticks. Part Two tells all you need to know to build and finish rustic furniture for an entire home: benches, tables, chairs, beds, cots, shelves, candelabras, gates, arbors, wayside stands, even road signs and birdhouses. "Two Books in One" There are really two books in one here: Building a Log Cabin, published in 1947, and Rustic Construction, published in 1939. These two classics have been reproduced exactly as they first appeared, with the drawings and photographs that W. Ben Hunt selected and produced for the original editions. |
