Otter Lake Cabins at Otter Lake, Tulameen, British Columbia, Canada
Have you been searching for a peaceful, outdoor retreat for the entire family to enjoy? Do you want to relax in luxury on a lake with breathtaking views with all the amenities you could dream of? Otter Lake Cabins (www.otterlakecabins.ca) on Otter Lake in the beautiful British Columbia wilderness is the place you've been looking for.
Beautiful, pristine and picturesque Otter Lake is nestled in the Similkameen Valley in the south west Okanagan by the small, historic town of Tulameen, British Columbia. The community of Tulameen is in the Tulameen Valley which is located approximately 3.5 hours east of Vancouver, British Columbia. Otter Lake is about 4.5 kilometers long and fed by fresh mountain run-off and natural spring water.
Located on the east end of the lake is Otter Lake Provincial Park surrounded by the Cascade Mountain Range. Large numbers of otter, beaver and red squirrel inhabit the area, as well as, mountain goats, cougars and grizzly bears. This very popular lake covers about 290 hectares (716 acres) at an elevation of 823 m (2700 ft.)
Tulameen, an historic gold, platinum, and coal mining town, has long been one of British Columbia's popular recreational areas, offering hiking, fishing, canoeing, tubing, swimming, water-skiing, cross-country skiing, gold panning, horse back riding, ATV-ing, ice-skating, snow mobiling and many other activities for both the summer and winter outdoor enthusiasts. Common species of freshwater fish that can be found in the lake are Kokanee, Largescale Sucker, Northern Pikeminnow (formerly N. Squawfish), Steelhead and Torrent Sculpin. A scenic 2 hour bike ride will take you around the lake along the Trans Canada Trail. Once your trip is done you can stop in at the quaint Tulameen General Store for an ice-cream or other refreshments.
Other amenities also include: a restaurant, post office, liquor store, video rentals, bike rentals (Crossroads Bike Rentals), community centre, outdoor skating rink, library, volunteer fire department, and skidoo dealer & repair centre.
The community of Tulameen and the Tulameen River derive their name from a Thompson Indian word meaning 'red earth'. A steep bank of the Tulameen River of about four miles north of Princeton was the source of the much-prized red ochre for which the Indians travelled from great distances to get. The settlement of Tulameen was earlier known as Campement des Femmes, or Otter Flat. It sits between the eastern bank of the Tulameen River and the Southern end of Otter Lake. There are about 250 residents here but this number grows in the summer months.
There are many beautiful rental homes and cabins along the shores of Otter Lake. Some of the most popular, beautiful and luxurious are Otter Lake Cabins (www.otterlakecabins.ca). ![]() Uncle Tom's Cabin (Barnes & Noble Classics Series) Sale Price: $5.95 Eligible for free shipping!Availability: Usually ships in 24 hours See Reviews For This Product DescriptionUncle Tom's Cabin, by Harriet Beecher Stowe, is part of the Barnes & Noble Classics series, which offers quality editions at affordable prices to the student and the general reader, including new scholarship, thoughtful design, and pages of carefully crafted extras. Here are some of the remarkable features of Barnes & Noble Classics: New introductions commissioned from today's top writers and scholars Biographies of the authors Chronologies of contemporary historical, biographical, and cultural events Footnotes and endnotes Selective discussions of imitations, parodies, poems, books, plays, paintings, operas, statuary, and films inspired by the work Comments by other famous authors Study questions to challenge the reader's viewpoints and expectations Bibliographies for further reading Indices & Glossaries, when appropriateAll editions are beautifully designed and are printed to superior specifications; some include illustrations of historical interest. Barnes & Noble Classics pulls together a constellation of influences—biographical, historical, and literary—to enrich each reader's understanding of these enduring works. Nearly every young author dreams of writing a book that will literally change the world. A few have succeeded, and Harriet Beecher Stowe is such a marvel. Although the American anti-slavery movement had existed at least as long as the nation itself, Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin (1852) galvanized public opinion as nothing had before. The book sold 10,000 copies in its first week and 300,000 in its first year. Its vivid dramatization of slavery’s cruelties so aroused readers that it is said Abraham Lincoln told Stowe her work had been a catalyst for the Civil War. Today the novel is often labeled condescending, but its characters—Tom, Topsy, Little Eva, Eliza, and the evil Simon Legree—still have the power to move our hearts. Though “Uncle Tom” has become a synonym for a fawning black yes-man, Stowe’s Tom is actually American literature’s first black hero, a man who suffers for refusing to obey his white oppressors. Uncle Tom’s Cabin is a living, relevant story, passionate in its vivid depiction of the cruelest forms of injustice and inhumanity—and the courage it takes to fight against them. Amanda Claybaugh is Assistant Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University. Features

![]() How to Build and Furnish a Log Cabin: The easy, natural way using only hand tools and the woods around you List Price: Sale Price: $11.53 You save: $5.42 (32%) Eligible for free shipping!Availability: Usually ships in 24 hours See Reviews For This Product DescriptionThe only step-by-step guide to building log cabins and log furniture—Pioneer style There are other manuals on building cabins, but W. Ben Hunt's is the only one to show you how to build and furnish an authentic pioneer cabin-the easy, natural way, using only hand tools and the woods around you. Our ancestors used logs and hand tools to build durable, dry, windproof, and protective dwellings; and they fashioned chairs, tables, branches, and bushes. In this day of power saws, lumberyards, and high prices, it's good to know that you can build in the same way. How to Build a Log Cabin Part One provides complete directions for building cabins of three sizes: one-room, one-room and lean-to, and three-room. Just follow the clear instructions on every step of construction from choosing the site, clearing the tract, and building the foundation to installing fixtures, heating, and lighting. How to Furnish a Log Cabin If you're not ready to build an entire cabin, you can try your hand at some of the small furnishings such as lamps, fences, and candlesticks. Part Two tells all you need to know to build and finish rustic furniture for an entire home: benches, tables, chairs, beds, cots, shelves, candelabras, gates, arbors, wayside stands, even road signs and birdhouses. "Two Books in One" There are really two books in one here: Building a Log Cabin, published in 1947, and Rustic Construction, published in 1939. These two classics have been reproduced exactly as they first appeared, with the drawings and photographs that W. Ben Hunt selected and produced for the original editions. |
